Hufflepuffs showed great creativity with their tweets yesterday! Well done guys!
Good luck Ravens!
Ps. We strongly advise not sending Errol with your tweet :)
Where to start? His character is very intriguing. I would love it very much if JK Rowling were to release a book about his life. Not like Bathilda Bagshot’s book but just a story of him at Hogwarts, even if the book was to only follow his life for a year. I feel like he is a character that we aren’t given enough insight on which leads to this grey area. Who was Albus Dumbledore?
First of all there is no doubting that he is one bad ass powerful wizard. Even his brother shows incredible magic in Deathly Hallows so it may be a Dumbledore thing.
Secondly, it’s never 100% clarified exactly which house Dumbledore was in during his student years (if memory serves me right). I think subconsciously we as readers automatically assume he is a Griffindor however he could do perfectly well in other houses for example Ravenclaw because he is an intellect.
Thirdly, I feel like he is a man who knew too much, which is not a gift but rather a sickness. He knew Harry had to die, he knew he himself was going to die. I could not imagine having to deal with that. Those deaths were unpreventable, meaning he knew they were going to happen but could do nothing to stop it. During book six as Harry learns more and more about Albus’ past we start to see a more darker side to him. This would suggest a slightly Slytherin quality.
After receiving my early access to Pottermore one of the first wand woods I read about (after mine; Aspen) was ‘Elder’. I am not going to take any text from the website as I am aware many people have yet to recieve their e-mails (fingers crossed). So I will only be referring to the bits I found very interesting in continuing to shape my opinion of him. As we know the Elder wand is not the most loyal. Olivander states that a remarkable wizard is only able to keep the Elder wand, i.e. extremely powerful. Power is associated with dark arts, evil and wicked things. This is because we use terms such as ‘power hungry’ meaning people will use any means necessary to obtain power. He who must not be named is a perfect example as we know his motives behind obtaining the Elder wand; more power. Now let me explain why this information shapes and re-shapes my opinion of him. On the one hand it can be argued that he has the Elder wand for power while on the other you can suggest that he is keeping it in order to keep it away from those who will choose to use it for evil. My personal opinion of this is that a younger Albus would want the wand for power while in later life as dark times are approaching he makes it his mission to make sure it does not fall into the wrong hands.
In the end I’m glad he was on Harry’s side because he is one wizard who you would want at your back. Reliable, trust worthy, a BAMF although slightly mad but all geniuses are slightly mad.
Four of our PUVF members, two Ravenclaws and two Slytherins, decided to try out an experiment. What house would we end up as a whole. We are proud to say the answer is Hufflepuff. There were many in the fandom who would not want to be sorted into Hufflepuff. However the new information Jo Rowling wrote would make anyone proud to be a Hufflepuff. The Puffs are a force to be reckoned with, “when provoked, can fight off animals much larger than itself, including wolves”. Our true strength can often be found when we’re in our groups of friends, which may be one of the reasons we had this result. Some of our PUVF members were missing for this experiment. We may have the opportunity to carry this out with the other half of PUVF members and eagerly await their results. We are proud of our current sorting.
the student count stands at 28416.
As the grand total count is still very low one of our family members thinks that they’ll be letting a lot of people in on the 30th or 31st of this month because they are currently falling too far behind on the number of users that should be in.
We sort of hope this isn’t the case and that they spread it out better otherwise we’ll be greeted by that lovely support message.
Right now they appear to be sending them out every 2 or 3 days. Hopefully it will become a daily thing. Sit tight potterheads :) Our houses are waiting for us!
For those of us still waiting, here are some youtube videos to keep us all entertained!
Warning: the follow may contain strong scenes of hilarity and are not Harry Potter or Pottermore related (to help keep your mind away from the e-mail we all so desire).
Whilst the hectic wait or enjoyment of Pottermore continues, and people are hopefully writing up their theories of Dumbledore, we are going to once again have a movie night!
What is this?
We’ve had two previously, one for ‘Mean Girls’ and one for ‘Contact’. Both of which are very different movies. Tonight (unless something happens) we will be holding a spur of the moment night for ‘Sweeney Todd’ (2007) staring Johnny Depp and a some Harry Potter alumni.
If you’re part of the Skype chat room we will be on there, if not you can use the ‘PUVF: movie night’ tag to talk about it during or after here on tumblr.
We will be holding this around 9:30pm BST which in itself is GMT+1 so adjust for your own time. Be aware that Britain isn’t the only place observing daylight savings time in your adjustment - central Europe is still an hour ahead and the east coast of North America is still five hours behind.
However, if you aren’t able to watch it until later and can’t join in the fun until then, you’re more than welcome to do so as we’ll be checking the tags now and then. You can even submit something if you have anything you really want to share about it.
